Detroit, Mi. – December 31, 2003 – In January 2002, Jim McGroarty was at one of those proverbial crossroads in life. Having been the victim of downsizing, he faced the decision of whether to continue working for someone else or to start his own business.

Armed with articles on the explosive growth of the internet and a shrinking retirement savings due the losses in the stock market, Jim McGroarty started Jem Ventures and the Great Electronics Deals website and decided he wanted to become an internet retail giant.

His goal was to build a virtual company. He would handle all the marketing, accounting and order processing from his home - based office, while the order fulfillment and warehousing would be outsourced. This would allow him to maximize time improving the website and minimize his up front capital risk and ongoing overhead expenses.

Upon Building the Great Electronics Deals website Jim decided to start another web site Great Buys On Gifts offering gifts and fine jewelry. He then started a third web site OTRhobbyist.com a not for profit site. This was one of his hobbies that he wanted to build on while allowing others to get interested in it too without the high prices in obtaining Old Time Radio Shows. He had even bigger plans for the future. Then he started GreatCampingBuys a camping supply site in another one of his interests.

After Building four websites and the overhead associated with keeping them up to date in late 2003, Jim decided he wanted to expand and offer more products. He thought, why create another completely new web site and have additional costs and marketing. Why not combine all but the hobby site into one new site. The creation of GreatShoppingBuys combines all three the electronics, camping and gift sites along with videos and more. This combining cuts marketing costs and time in half and enables unlimited products and keeps overhead low so we can pass the savings to our customers. The new site is also completely controlled by us allowing us to customize the software we use to give our customers a better shopping experience.
